We are a Pre-Denominational church of Christ
in a western suburb of Perth, Western Australia.
In Acts chapter 2, we read where the first church of Jesus Christ was established long before man-made denominations were ever invented. A denomination is defined as “A religious organisation uniting local congregations in a single, legal and administrative body. This religious body is identifiable by a common structure, doctrine, and name.”
However, in the book of Acts, we find no mention of denominations. In fact, the apostle Paul preached adamantly against these divisions.
In 1 Corinthians 1:10, he urged that “You all agree and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be made complete in the same mind and in the same judgment.”
Paul also wrote to the Ephesians that there is only “one body” (church) of Christ (Eph. 1:22-23; 4:4). In the book of Acts, there were no Catholics, Lutherans, Methodists, Episcopalians, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Mormons, 7th Day Adventists, or any other denomination mentioned. There were “Christians,” that’s all (Acts 11:26).
The City Beach Church strives to be like the pre-denominational church found in the book of Acts, because that’s the only church Jesus established.

Friend, in a world too often filled with bad news, the primary desire of the City Beach Church of Christ is to share the “Good News” that a loving God has made it possible for everyone to enter into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, who declared, "I have come that they may have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of” (John 10:10). "According as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him that has called us to glory and virtue:" (2 Peter 1:3).“In this world you will have trouble, But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33). "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes to the Father, but by me." (John 14:6)
These truths are a wonderful reality that we treasure and enjoy by trusting that they are true: (Acts 2:36-47); (2 Corinthians 5:17).

Today’s Message of Encouragement from
Discovering A BETTER LIFE MINISTRIES

YOU ARE A SPECIAL PERSON!
Friend, Nathaniel Branden, in his book titled “The Psychology of Self-Esteem,” writes that our sense of self-worth depends on two factors.
Firstly, self-esteem involves a sense of self-confidence. For instance, if we can be successful at something, like running a marathon, earning a degree, becoming wealthy, or having our names in a prominent place, these signs tell us that we are winners.
Secondly, our self-esteem is tied up with our values and standards. We feel that we must measure up.
Branden says, “Every human being judges himself by some standard; and to the extent that we fail to satisfy that standard, our sense of personal worth, our self-respect, suffers accordingly.”
Friend, each of us must ask ourselves some tough questions. Have I been the kind of mother or father I should have been? Have I lived up to the standards I have set for myself in business?
Some of us are more aware of those questions than others. Sometimes, if we sense that we do not measure up, we create problems for ourselves and others. Some people show their lack of self-esteem by hating those who are a threat to them. Others act in a neurotic attempt to do better.
They become perfectionists who are never satisfied with their work, parenting, or level of success in life. If they drive themselves harder, they feel they can win recognition.
In a popular fable, a carpenter named Geppetto creates a wooden puppet which he names Pinocchio. His creation comes to life with all the characteristics of a human little boy, except that he is made of wood. This causes all kinds of personality problems for Pinocchio.
His difficulty is in many ways related to ours. Because he is different from others, he has problems with self-esteem. Confused about his identity, he turns to the kindly Geppetto, the craftsman who created him. He says to Geppetto, “Poppa, if I’m alright with you, then I’m alright with me.”
Profoundly, Pinocchio speaks for all of us. Our attempt to build self-esteem may fail. The missing piece to the puzzle of achieving self-esteem is the realisation that we are God’s creatures. We are created in His image – and regardless of race, nationality, appearance or talent, we have all been created in the image of God, who provides each of us with His unconditional love.
Friend, God genuinely desires fellowship with us because we are the crown of His creation. We do not have to conform to someone else’s idea of value; we are valuable because we are His.
“There are certain things you can do,
Or learn to do, which can make you
Extraordinarily valuable to
You and others.”
I like the words of T. S. Eliot, who wrote:
“. . . There is something in us
In all of us, which isn’t just heredity,
But something unique! Something we have been
From eternity! Something that is straight from God!”
Friend, Jesus saw something special in everyone He met. And He sees something special in you and me! As the apostle Paul wrote, “... God shows His love for us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). This is the ultimate proof that you and I are very special persons indeed!
